The records of the Worcester Business Exchange, 1874, contain its constitution and membership list. The articles called for the payment of dues, and for annual meetings and regular meetings held bimonthly. Among the officers was a president and a board of directors. Among the leaders of the Exchange were George Merrick Rice (1810-1894) and Philip Louis Moen (1824-1891).

The Worcester Business Exchange was formed in December 1873 by a group of Worcester businessmen "to promote the business interests of the city [and] ... to cultivate a more intimate and friendly acquaintance" among local businessmen. In November 1874 the name was changed to the Worcester Board of Trade, which was incorporated in 1875. The organization was actually a forerunner of the Chamber of Commerce.
